I think I am one of the few people on this site who can say I have worked personally with Lindsay Roberts, Richard Roberts, Stephanie Cantese, Dr. Lewandowski, and Dr. Swails (one of the professors in the lawsuit). Additionally, I am familiar with the prosecution's lawyer and his reputation against ministries. I am a graduate of ORU (B.S. in Business), licensed minister, M.B.A. graduate (different university) and have been close to many of these key players. Therefore, I feel I can honestly evaluate ORU’s situation.

Based on my experience with the Roberts family, members of the Board of Regents (and their kids), and as a former student (and leader) at ORU, I feel that the best thing the University could do is hire an Academic to run the university--not a minister.

For too long, the academics at ORU have suffered because of the nepotism and ministry-run leadership. Ministry is a good thing and serves an important purpose in God's kingdom. However, a university who wants to be taken seriously as a reputable institution of higher learning needs to appoint appropriate academic leadership. In my opinion, a University President should be at least a Ph.D. Richard Roberts is not an appropriate President of a university. His wife, Lindsay, leaves much to be desired in the way of tact, humility, and class. However, I don’t believe she is capable of inappropriate relationships with a minor. It is true that they have tried to help many students addicted to drugs.

For the future of the university, a true Academic should be brought in to serve as President. Additionally, the Board of Regents would be wise to invite more respected academics with strong credentials to join their ranks. This would be an intelligent change from the predominately minister-led board whose members give the $100k minimum required donation to join the Board of Regents.

ORU was founded on a good vision…a Christ-centered vision. Its future can only be ensured with solid, credentialed leadership. Let the academics run the university and the ministers stick to the ministry.

I like what you've said here. I'm friends with other ORU grads who have espoused almost the exact same sentiment. It would make more sense for a minister to be university Chancellor, and for a proper, spiritually aligned academic to be the university president. I have a great respect for the work that Oral Roberts started. I just hate seeing its reputation tarnished. It's unfair to the current students and to the alumni.

The university raised $8.8 million for a new student center since 2001. The site is still empty.

Read it here.
