Now we're cooking, orulawsuit. The article on televangelism and insularity is not to be found at Tulsa World Dot Com. So it is a unique contribution, and from a former ORU student, no less, with shocking revelations about the Bible with pictures of ORUers in it and Patti Roberts being photoshopped out even before there was a photoshop. And the commentary was excellent. I wish you would figure out some way to get comments cooking here, discussion is good for the soul, do people recognize you and hold back for a specific reason?
The picture of Richard Roberts without his wife was a humorous example of artistic liberty. To put the best construction on what happened, I suspect it was done as a type of inside joke.
I don’t know what to think about Oral’s "900 foot Jesus" comment, made several years ago. I do not have primary source material of what he exactly said at the time. Indeed, there seems to be some debate over whether he said he saw a “900 foot Jesus” in a Damascus road type vision or just a simple dream at night. For example, in reading the Tulsa World editorial, one person said this:
“...the 900 foot Jesus (which, BTW, Oral NEVER said- I was THERE when he told the dream he actually saw) - Tulsa World editorial http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?articleID=071014_1_A8_spanc70656
Also, what does the phrase “take you home” really mean? Perhaps Oral misinterpreted it as “heaven” when it was meant to be a reference to early retirement?
The problem with theologically “charismatic” Christian ministers is that they tend to speak very dogmatically about their particular interpretation of personal and peculiar revelations without subjecting them to other Christians for accountability and discernment.
